Why Do My Rekordbox Tags Disappear?

A troubleshooting checklist for Rekordbox tags, library databases, duplicate files, and metadata that looks different between apps.

When Rekordbox tags appear to disappear, the most common cause is a mismatch between the library database and the file or device being inspected. The tag may still exist in the database, may not have been written to the file, or may be hidden by a different view or export.

Check the source of truth

  1. Confirm you are opening the same Rekordbox library and user profile.
  2. Check the track in the browser view where the tag was originally added.
  3. Look for duplicate files with similar names or paths.
  4. Back up the library before repairing metadata or moving folders.

Why a second app can look different

Some applications read embedded file metadata, while others read a library database or their own index. A rating, tag, cue point, or playlist decision can therefore be visible in one place but not another. Treat the desktop DJ application as the final preparation surface, and use a phone companion for listening and review.
